I have been asked quite frequently on, "What's the difference between Facebook Marketing and Internet Marketing?"
So, to help my trainees understand the concept easier, I explained it using Fishing. Yup, Fishing.

Internet Marketing (SEO and PPC) can be likened to fishing in the Ocean (Internet). You have a vast supply of fishes (Potential customers), but your challenge is how to attract and hook the right fishes. You would have carefully think of the kinds of fishes (target audience) you want to catch and what types of baits (Keywords/Topics/Contents/Campaigns) would be required to attract their attention. So when the fishes are hungry (searches), see your bait and bite (visits your site), then you would need to rely on your skills (content writing, offering of value) to reel in the fish, carefully and persistently, until it ends up into your basket.
Whereas Facebook Marketing can be likened to fishing in a commercial Pond. In such a commercial Pond, you would have the necessary information on what kind of fishes (target audience with demographics) are available, their preference (interests, wants, desires), and therefore, you get to choose which Pond to fish. While the choices are lesser and limited, you get to decide (or at least, ZERO IN) on the types of fishes you want to catch and choose the necessary baits to catch them. Then, similar to Internet Marketing, you must still rely on your skills (content building, offering of value) to reel in the fish.
